The Test of Listening contains four parts. Each part requires the candidate to listen to a recording (between 3 and 10 minutes) while answering a set of multiple-choice questions about the recording. The four parts are of different and increasing difficulty level, such that the first part is the easiest and the last the most difficult. The recordings are of different types (e.g., dialogues, discussions, announcements, lectures, etc) and different topics.

The Test of Reading contains three parts. Each part requires the candidate to read a text (of between 400 and 800 words) and answer a set of multiple-choice questions about the text. The three parts are of different and increasing difficulty level, such that the first part is the easiest and the last the most difficult. The texts are of different types (e.g., news or magazine articles, extracts from academic papers, essays, etc) and different topics.

The Test of Grammar contains two parts. Each part requires the candidate to read a text written by an English language learner and answer a set of multiple-choice questions about the use of grammar in the text.

The Test of Vocabulary contains one part of up to 30 questions. Each question requires the candidate to read a sentence and then complete the sentence with the most appropriate word from the choices given. All words are taken from the Academic Word List.
